False-colour scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a colony of the bacteria Klebsiella pneumonia responsible for the respiratory disease, pneumonia. The rod-like, non-motile bacteria (gram negative) are widely distributed in nature, occurring in soil, water and grain. They are also found in the digestive tract of healthy humans and other animals.
