A carnivorous plant Drosera rotundifolia, the sundew, growing in a half flooded peat bog. Extending from the leaf surface are tentacles tipped with a sticky secretion. The tentacles are of two kinds; longer marginal ones & shorter inner ones. Insects, attracted by the secretion, stick to the tips of the longer tentacles, which bend over bringing them inward towards the shorter ones, forming a tight grip. Enzymes secreted by the tentacles digest the insect & the products are absorbed by the leaf. Drosera grows in a nitrogen deficient environment (bogs), which it overcomes by a carnivorous diet.
