Flowers of the Bearded Couch-grass (Agropyron caninum). Clearly visible here are the feathery white styles and thin yellow anthers. A.caninum is a species native to the UK, and is found in loose tufts in shady places and woods throughout England, Wales and south Scotland. It is easily distinguished by the long, spiked awns which give the plant its bearded appearance. The Bearded Couch-grass may grow up to 110cm in length. Flowering occurs between June and August.
