DNA cryostorage. Gloved fingers remove a microtube containing a DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) sample from cryostorage (cold storage). The cold prevents the samples from deteriorating before they are used. DNA contains the hereditary characteristics of living organisms as a sequence of bases known as the genetic code. DNA is used for gene mapping and therapy, and for genetic fingerprinting. Rubber gloves help to maintain sterile conditions.
