Restorer uses a syringe to inject an epoxy resin preservative into the coffin of an Eygptian mummy at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Restoration of the coffin was performed in preparation for the mummy's visit to Brigham & Women's Hospital, where this & other mummies were examined by conventional x-rays and whole-body CT (computed tomography). Both these non-invasive examination techniques gave some insight into the pathological conditions of the mummies at time of death and indicated their present states of preservation with a regard to future conservation & display in the museum.
