Potassium-argon dating method developed at the University of California, Berkeley enables geologists to determine the absolute age of volcanic rocks. This method of dating may be used by palaeoanthropologists to discover the precise age of the deposits, in which their finds (fossil hominids) are made. Such a technique was first used at Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania.
