Edward Teller. Portrait of Edward Teller (born 1908), Hungarian-American physicist and father of the hydrogen bomb". He studied at the University of Leipzig, Germany, but left Europe in the 1930s because of the Nazi threat. During World War II he was involved in the development of the first atomic pile or reactor before working at Los Alamos on the development of the atom bomb. In the late 1940s and early 1950s he helped to develop a more powerful weapon called the Hydrogen bomb (H- bomb). Teller rejected the idea that he had moral responsibility for the effects of his discoveries and suggested that such doubts only hindered research. Photographed in the 1980s."
