The production of abnormal white blood cells severely weakens the immune system, making otherwise harmless infections life threatening. Symptoms include swelling of lymph nodes, pain and enlargement of the spleen and liver. Treatment includes radiotherapy, anticancer drugs and bone marrow transplants.
