Close-up of the eye showing an entropion, an inturning of the lower eyelid causing the eyelashes to touch the eye. The commonest type, seen here, is spastic entropion of the lower eyelid due to spasms of the muscle (orbicularis oculi) that closes the eye. Entropion may also be caused by scarring of the conjunctiva, or the lining menbrane of the lid. The inturned eyelashes may rub the eye and cause trichiasis, an eye inflammation that sometimes leads to corneal ulceration.
