Colonic bleeding. Gross clinical specimen of a section through a bleeding (haemorrhaging) colon (part of the large intestine). This condition, known as rectocolitis, causes inflammation and bleeding of the colon and rectum, resulting in blood being passed with the faeces. There are many causes for this type of bleeding, for example infection by microorganisms.
