This room is used to produce sterile injections for use in the hospital's imaging departments. A sterile room prevents contamination of the solutions to be injected and therefore prevents infections in patients. Also, some materials used are toxic or radioactive and so must not be spread outside the room. Before taking diagnostic images, such as X- rays or MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans, a contrast medium or radioactive tracer is often injected into the tissue or area to be observed to highlight it.
