The tube running from the pump goes under the patient's clothing to a vein near the shoulder. The pump is designed to deliver a measured dose of cancer drugs through this tube and into the bloodstream. This allows the patient to carry out normal day-to-day activities while being treated for their cancer, as opposed to having intensive chemotherapy sessions at a hospital.
