Aromatherapy oil. Bottle of aromatherapy oil (centre right) surrounded by various flowers and sticks of cinnamon. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum sp.), the dried tree bark, is used in cooking as a spice and in aromatherapy for its carminative, stomachic (assisting digestion) and menorrhagiac (heavy menstrual bleeding) soothing properties. In aromatherapy, fragrant plant extracts, known as essential oils, are suspended in a carrier oil. This mix is then massaged into the skin, inhaled or added to bathing water.
