Traditional woundcare. Samburu man from Kenya showing how an insect has been used to treat a cut on his hand. The cut is on the right side of his hand, near his thumb. This traditional woundcare method involves using the insect's jaws to bite on the cut, bringing the edges of the wound together. The body of the insect is then removed, leaving the head in place to hold the skin flaps together as the wound heals. This is similar to how butterfly stitches work.
