Uterine adhesions, endoscope view. The uterus (the rounded pink organ) is at upper right. The ovaries (two white organs) are at lower centre and lower left. The fallopian tubes (pink/red, at left) are the tubes attached to the uterus that end near the ovaries. The reddened and inflamed areas (lower left and across top) are where the uterus and the fallopian tubes have formed adhesions with the surrounding tissue, such as the pelvic wall. An adhesion is where fibrous, scar-like tissue forms, joining two organs that are normally separated. This can cause pain, and can impede normal function. Surgery may be required.
