Infertility. Conceptual computer artwork of a sperm cell (spermatazoon) forming the shape of a question mark. This artwork could represent male infertility. Sperm cells, the male reproductive cells, are formed in the testes. The head of the sperm cell (bottom) contains the genetic material. During intercourse, millions of sperm cells are deposited in the female reproductive tract. They use their tails to move towards the egg cell (female reproductive cell). Only the healthiest sperm cells will reach the egg cell, and only one will fertilise it. If a man has a low sperm count, or his sperm cells are defective, then the chances of conceiving a baby are low. In vitro fertilisation (IVF) can be used to treat this type of infertility.
