Arterial systems. Historical illustration of human arterial systems. The arteries are coloured red to show that they supply oxygenated blood. At top is the base of the brain and its arteries. Below this are four diagrams. From left, they are the arteries of the nose, the eyes and the base of the brain. This last diagram shows the spinal arteries fusing to form the basilar artery of the base of the brain. This then branches to form the smaller arteries supplying blood to the brain.
