The single bone of the upper leg (the femur) meets the two smaller bones of the lower limb (the tibia and fibula) at the knee joint. Also visible is the patella, the lens- shaped bone that forms the kneecap. It is located in front of the knee in the tendon of the quadriceps muscle of the thigh.
