Gall bladder. Coloured X-ray of the abdomen of an elderly woman, showing the gall bladder (orange) & liver (yellow) during an endoscope examination. The endoscope is the curved pink tube; a cannula at the end (fine wire, lower centre) is drawing fluid from the common bile duct which leads from the gall bladder. The pear-shaped gall bladder stores bile and lies underneath the larger liver. In the liver can be seen a number of hepatic ducts leading to the larger common bile duct. Vertebrae of the spine (purple) are seen at left. An endoscope is inserted into the body to view organs and obtain tissue samples and carry out surgery.
