Goose-flesh. Close-up of the skin of a woman's underarm showing goose-flesh or goose-bumps (medical name: cutis anserina). This is a reaction of the skin to cold or fear. Blood vessels in the skin contract as do the small muscles attached to the base of each hair follicle, pulling the hair into an upright position. In this state the skin resembles plucked goose skin.
