Male face beauty perception. Computer images of 3 sets of average male Caucasian faces distorted to show feminisation (left) and masculinisation (right). Women judged which faces were most attractive at different times of their menstrual cycle. Many young men's features were combined on a computer and either given larger jaws and chins (right) or softer rounded features (left). Ovulating women chose dominant masculinised faces. At other times, feminised faces, thought to be associated with kindness and stable parenthood, were chosen. This work was done at the School of Psychology, University of St Andrew's, Scotland.
