Saturn V. Saturn V rocket of the type used to launch the Apollo missions to the Moon. The rocket forms part of an open-air exhibit at a museum of space exploration; in the background at lower right is an Apollo module. Saturn V was a disposable design, each rocket being used only once. The rockets were 100 metres tall and used liquid hydrogen as fuel. There were seven missions to the Moon. Apollo 11 achieved the first manned lunar landing in July 1969. Apollo 17 flew the last mission in the series in December 1972. The total cost of the missions was $24.5 billion at the time. This exhibit is on display at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida, USA.
