Shuttle launch. Space Shuttle Columbia lifting off from Launch Pad 39B at the Kennedy Space Centre at the start of Mission STS-75 on 22 February 1996. The crew of this mission were Andrew M. Allen, commander; Scott Horowitz, pilot; Franklin Chang- Diaz, payload commander; Maurizio Cheli, Jeffrey Hoffman and Claude Nicollier, mission specialists; and Umberto Guidioni, payload specialist. The object of the mission was to perform various experiments. An experiment on 25 February 1996 was designed to raise the orbit of a tethered satellite by towing it from the shuttle. However, the line broke and the satellite was lost. Columbia returned safely on 9 March 1996.
