PANSAT satellite (silhouetted at centre right), orbiting the Earth. The PANSAT (Petite Amateur Navy Satellite) was developed by the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California, USA. It is designed to capture and transmit radio signals that are normally too weak or contain too much interference. Photographed on 30 October 1998 from the Space Shuttle Discovery, which deployed PANSAT as part of mission STS-95.
