Sugarcane-fired power station. Aerial view of a power station that creates electricity by burning bagasse, a solid residue of sugarcane. Bagasse is the dried residue of sugarcane stalks after they have had their sugary juice extracted. Combustion of the bagasse causes it to decompose and release volatile matter as a gas that will also burn. This decomposition process is known as gassification.
