Hydroelectric generator. This is the generator for Gants Mill, a watermill near Bruton in Somerset, England. Water falls through the inlet pipe (red) into the crossflow turbine (dark blue). The water drives the turbine, and the energy is transferred to the generator (light blue) by the belt drive (at right of the generator). The generator then produces the electricity. The mill is part of a group of ten supplying power to the area as part of a scheme to increase small-scale hydroelectric power. About 15 homes will be supplied with energy from this mill, which supplies about 12 kilowatts (kW) of power. It began operating in April 2004. The mill dates back to 1290.
