Electric plug opened to show the internal wiring. The live wire is connected to a five amp fuse (upper right) that protects the device from a damaging overload of electricity. An overload will melt the wire in the fuse and break the electrical circuit. The earth wire goes to the uppermost pin. This will carry the current safely to earth (the ground) if a fault develops. The other wire (upper left) is neutral.
