MODEL RELEASED. RoboPike. Researcher Joshua Davis, holding RoboPike. This robot is designed to mimic the swimming actions of a fish. The 80-centimetre- long robot has a rigid fibreglass nose (red) which contains motors. These pull on tungsten wires attached to the fibreglass spring seen forming the rigid structure of the body. The wires flex the spring, producing strong swimming strokes. A human operator controls the battery-powered robot using a radio. The fins (white) are used to steer the robot.
