The Web is a global network of over 10,000 host computers connected by the Internet. Users of the Web are able to navigate between computers to access data by using a program called a 'browser'. Each site has a server, a computer connected to the Internet which directs users to the documents and data they wish to access. The Web was created at CERN, and started services in 1989.
