Computers communicate with each other over the Internet by transmitting signals through telephone lines. A piece of equipment known as a modem is needed to convert computer data into a telephone signal. The information held on the WWW, which forms part of the Internet, is held on computers across the world. This information is accessed by using a computer program, known as a browser, which allows users to navigate between computers.
