Communicating with computers. Media Lab researcher Joshua Bers uses cybergloves, eye-tracking gear and space-sensing magnets in his clothes to inter- act with a computer through a virtual dummy that mirrors his movements. The aim of Bers's research is to make it possible for us to communicate with computers just as we would with people: through speech, eye-contact and gestures. If successful his project could make computer keyboards and mice redundant. The Media Lab was set up in 1985 at the USA's Massachusetts Institute of Technology. It carries out cutting-edge research into new ways of interacting with the information superhighway"- delivered computerised media of the future."
