Ampoule. Close-up of a filled glass ampoule. Ampoules are small glass containers which can be filled with liquid and sterilized. The liquid is obtained by breaking the tip (bottom, right) of the container. Ampoules are most often used for providing a single, sterile dose of a drug for injection. The ampoule pictured here contains a radioactive liquid used to calibrate radioactive instruments to the British Standard.
