HST servicing mission. The Hubble Space Telescope (HST) seen in the payload bay of Shuttle Endeavour shortly after capture during Mission STS-61. This was the first mission to service the HST in orbit, and flew on 2-13 December 1993. Primary servicing tasks included the replacement of the Wide Field and Planetary Camera, the solar panels, gyroscope units and a magnetometer and the fitting of the COSTAR corrective optics package. All of the servicing tasks were completed in the course of five sessions of extravehicular activity (EVA), each with two astronauts outside the Shuttle.
