The planet Jupiter, photographed on January 27, 1979, by the Voyager 1 spacecraft, from a distance of 37.5 million kilometres (23.3 million miles). The dark brown spot in the northern hemisphere is one of several similar features detected by Voyager's cameras. A thin brown line in the light zone north of the brown spot is the location of a high-speed jet stream similar to Earth's jet stream.
