Voyager 2 false-colour image of the Uranian ring system taken on Jan 21st, 1986, from a distance of 4. 17 million kilometres (2.59 million miles). All nine known rings are visible here. The brightest outermost ring, epsilon (top), is neutral in colour. The other fainter rings show colour differences between them. The delta, gamma & eta rings (moving down photo towards Uranus) appear in shades of blue & green; the beta & alpha are in lighter tones; and the 4th, 5th & 6th rings in faint off-white tones. The fainter, pastel lines seen in between are contributed by the computer enhancement. The colours will provide information on the origin & nature of ring material. NASA 5x4 number 86 HC 61
