Ribosomal RNA-binding protein molecule. Computer model showing the structure of a ribosomal protein L9 (RPL9) molecule from Bacillus stearothermophilus bacteria. This primary RNA-binding protein has a highly elongated and unusual bi-lobed structure consisting of two separated domains joined by a long exposed alpha-helix. RPL9 is a component of the 60S subunit of ribosomes, the cell organelles that catalyse protein synthesis.
