Mute swan beating its wings on a misty lake. Mute swans (Cygnus olor) are found in temperate areas of Europe, western Asia and coastal Russia. A pair of swans usually mate for life, and their offspring will forage with them after fledging at around six months. Juveniles become fully independent and leave their flock after around four years. Photographed in the UK.
