Richard Pulteney (1730-1801), British botanist. Pulteney was an apprentice to an apothecary for seven years from the age of fifteen. His early work on botany included 'Account of the More Rare Plants Observed in Leicestershire' (1757). He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1762, and went on to obtain his medical degree at Edinburgh University (1764). He established a practice in Dorset, continuing to work on botany in his spare time. His work 'A General View of the Writings of Linnaeus' (1782) was widely acclaimed.
