Nerve ganglion. Light micrograph of a section through a nerve ganglion of the peripheral nervous system, showing clusters of nerve cell bodies. In this sensory or dorsal root ganglion, the axons (green) are myelinated. The axons of these ganglion cells are unusual in that they are branched; one arm arrives from the periphery, the other passes towards the spinal cord. Glial cells or satellite cells surround each nerve cell body. Magnification: x180, when printed 10 centimetres high.
