Harry Bolus (1834-1911), South African botanist. Bolus arrived in the Cape Colony (now South Africa) from Nottingham, England, in 1950 to assist with botanical collecting. He took up botany again in 1865, establishing a large collection of specimens. He also collected botanical books and magazines. With money from his business interests, he founded the Bolus Herbarium, and the Harry Bolus Professorship at what became the University of Cape Town, to whom he bequeathed his library and fortune. Bolus was a Fellow of the Linnean Society of London, and President of the South African Philosophical Society.
