Margate parade and ships. 19th-century artwork of sailing ships beached at low tide at Margate in East Kent, UK. Horse-drawn wagons are being used to unload and resupply the ships, while children and locals watch from the parade. At left, horse-drawn bathing machines take visitors down to the sea to bathe. This 1808 engraving by J. Hill is based on an artwork originally produced circa 1801 by French-born English painter Philippe James de Loutherbourg (1740-1812).
