Three multi-bladed scarificators, with spare blades. Scarificators such as these were used to create wounds on the surface of the skin, principally for wet cupping procedures. Cupping is a form of bloodletting used to 'treat' a range of ailments. These instruments, dating from around 1800, are made in England from brass and steel and are pictured with their original cases.
