Jean Brunhes. Portrait of Jean Brunhes (1869- 1932), French geographer. Brunhes pioneered a systematic approach to human geography, emphasising the study of human artefacts to determine the effect that geography has on local populations. Brunhes believed that geographical features limited, but did not determine, the decisions taken by societies.
