Light micrograph of parenchyma and xylem tissues in a female cone of Pinus sp. (ls). The image presents a conductive bundle (xylem) embedded in parenchyma cells. In the xylem we can clearly differentiate the tracheas, with annular thickenings on their walls. The parenchyma cells show a thin and flexible cell wall, a well-differentiated nucleous and other cytoplasmic structures. The vascular tissue of the xylem transports water and some nutrients through the plant. The pine is a resinous and aromatic evergreen conifer tree of the genus Pinus, of the family Pinaceae. It is the most widespread genus of trees in the Northern Hemisphere. Some pine products include: timber, wood pulp, pine resin (rosin and turpentine), charcoal, carbon black (carcinogenic), fuel gases and edible seeds (pine nuts). It has a great importance in bioenergy (as a biomass), forestry and ecology. Field of view size: 370 x 550 痠 (0.015 x 0.022 in)
