Super typhoon Haiyan. Satellite image of super typhoon Haiyan over the Philippines on 8th November 2013. The Category 5 storm, with wind speeds up to 314 kilometres per hour, may be the strongest tropical cyclone ever to make landfall. It devastated large areas of the Philippines, particularly Samar Island and Leyte, affecting 9 million people. Over 3,500 people were killed and more than 12,000 injured. Data from the precipitation radar (PR) and TRMM microwave imager (TMI) on baord NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite.
