First launch of the orbiter Atlantis for space shuttle mission 51-J on October 3, 1985. The spacecraft was launched from Pad 39a at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Atlantis was the 4th in NASA's fleet of space shuttle's prior to the explosion of the orbiter Challenger in 1986. The crew of mission 51-J were Karol Bobko, Ronald Grabe, Robert Stewart, David Hilmers & William Pailes.
