Secondary lung cancer. Clinical post-mortem specimen of human lungs dissected in a case of secondary cancer. Multiple malignant nodules (rounded areas) in both lungs are metastases of cancerous cells from a primary tumour site elsewhere in the body. Spread of cancer often occurs via the bloodstream. Secondary cancers are often fatal as cancer is more difficult to treat once it has spread.
