Pressure gauge recorder, 19th century. Illustration of the recording mechanism for a Richard pressure gauge. This device, developed in France, was used to record pressures in boilers and steam engines. The rotating cylinder of paper where the pressure is recorded by a stylus is marked with days of the week, the time, and the pressure in kilogrammes.
