Fenian Ram submarine display. This submarine was designed by Irish engineer John P. Holland (1841-1914). It was launched in New York in 1881 as Holland Boat No. II and was intended for use by the Fenian Brotherhood against the British in their campaign for Irish independence. Following a payment dispute, the Irish republicans stole it but were unable to work out how to operate it. It was purchased in 1927 and put on display in Westside Park, Paterson, Passaic County, New Jersey, USA. It was moved to the Paterson Museum in 1980. This photograph, by Nathaniel R. Ewan, was taken on 17 July 1936 and is part of the Historic American Buildings Survey.
