Coal tit (Parus ater) in winter. This bird (also known as Periparus ater) is widespread throughout Europe, Asia and northern Africa. It is around 11 centimetres in length, with large white patches on the top and sides of its otherwise black head. It feeds on seeds. Photographed in February, in Dorset, UK.
